I stepped a little outside of my romance box with this young adult, dystopian romance, and I have to say that I was absolutely blown away by a riveting tale that I couldn't put down. Roman and April's forbidden romance starts with a name on a list and a bit of curiosity. As the pair get to know each other, the larger story of corruption and betrayal unfolds for a thoroughly engrossing read. With wonderful characters and witty dialogue, this debut novel is a fast-paced, entertaining read that is packed full of romance, intrigue, suspense, and at times, even a bit chilling. While the conclusion isn't a drive you crazy cliffy, it is open-ended, and I for one will be anxiously awaiting what's next for Roman and April.

I always enjoy a good dystopian novel, but this one went way beyond my expectations! Once I started reading, I couldn't stop. Not only is the premise intriguing, (the world found a way to prevent death, but now they have leaders who select people to die to solve an overpopulation crisis), the characters are so emotionally profound, you can't help but love them. Roman is the sweetest, most lovable male protagonist. You find yourself cheering him on, mumbling under your breath trying to give him the confidence he needs to ask April out. April, on the other hand, is the strong-willed female protagonist that drives the story.All it took was Roman finding her name on a list and a visit to the coffee shop she works at to throw these two into a well-built world of political intrigue and a heap of trouble. To keep April alive, Roman thwarts everything he believes in but April is too strong to stand in the background. She want's to fight back. This book is full of romance and energy. I highly recommend it!

I loved the concept of the story. Ever wondered what our future holds? Though I would hate to go through a purge like in this book, it was almost realistic.April was so brave through this whole ordeal and so young. Roman, I wanted to tell him to grow a pair at sometimes as I read on. I loved the ending and if this author was to write a second book, which looks as if she might, then I'd want to dive into it! I would love to know what happened with April's sister.

If you enjoy dystopian books, you’ll love this one! The way it’s written pulled me immediately, as I followed the perspective of two different characters. Roman, the male, who works for the The Divinity Bureau, which is the exact governmental agency that April despises. Placed in a futuristic setting where most don’t grow old, it made for a fun and refreshing read. Don’t pass this one up. It reminds me of a cross between I, Robot and the Uglies series. Excellent book! I love dystopians!

I like this futuristic take, and enjoyed imagining a take on the USA if it went through a phase of limited or even lack of resources, plus overpopulation, extremely high living expenses and wralthy to poor disparity. I read this on my commute to work. Highly recommended

This has to be my new all time favorite book, I could not put it down! I can not wait to read more from this author, I would recommend this book to anyone looking for an amazing read!!

Great book! I enjoyed the dual perspectives April and Roman provided, as well as how the Divinity Bureau itself wasn't pure evil, but a necessary one. I enjoyed the story itself and there were a number of unexpected plot twists. I look forward to the sequel to see how things turn out for the main characters!

In short, this book was an incredible read. If only life hadn't gotten in the way, I could've had this guy read in a few days!The first thing I must comment on is Tessa Clare's world building. In a dystopian novel, (my favorite kind of novel mind you so I am very picky!) I am such a stickler for good world building. It has to make sense as to why the world is the way it is and it has to be believable. The world of The Divinity Bureau was all that and more! Tessa Clare went into lots of detail about the structure of the overpopulated world and how it got to be that way. I really appreciate that attention to detail. I hate it when authors just expect the reader to accept that the world is screwed up with no explanation as to why.Next the characters: I felt like I knew Roman. He was such a believable and relatable character (I too have a master's degree and still struggle to find work!) April was the strong female lead that I CRAVE for in all Young Adult lit! Yes, it is a love story between her and Roman but she is not the type of helpless, sappy, weak female lead whose life depends and revolves around her romantic endeavors. She is strong with or without Roman but like all great relationships, both April and Roman bring out the best in each other.I also loved that we got both Roman and April's point of view. The chapters alternated to both Roman and April telling parts of the story. It was extremely well done. Reminded me of everything I loved about Marie Lu's Legend.I don't have much bad to say about this book. I didn't feel like it drug in any place and the story really moved and pushed forward.This book is set to be released on both Amazon and Barnes and Nobel on September 21st. So is it worth your time and hard earned money? Short answer: absolutely!!
