This is a very basic overview of the endocrine system, with a strong emphasis on clinical correlations. There are a lot of examples of endocrine diseases accopanied by some gruesome pictures. The approach is less about the whole and more about the individual parts. Thus those of you being brought to this Blackwell book from Lauren Sompayrac's brilliant books on the Immune System, Virus's and Cancer may be a little disappointed. Sompayrac was the series editor on this one not the author, so not much in terms of historical anecdotes and overarching themes that make you feel like you're being spoonfed epiphanies, but none the less it's useful as a study guide if not as a general overview.

This small book is a good basic, but brief overview of the endocrine system and how the various parts interrelate. It is relatively easy to understand for non-medical personnel. It should be noted that the book reflects the views and opinions of the author about the treatment and diagnosis and other authors have different opinions. It is a good starting point for someone with thyroid or related problems to understand their particular condition(s).

This is such an easy read, and has helped me study for the biology section of my candidacy exams. Prior to reading this book, I knew nothing about hormones so it gave me a foundation and equipped me with the knowledge to better understand the research articles I had to read.

This is such an easy-to-read book that really helps you put together all the pieces of the endocrine system. Perfect for medical students.

The endocrine system is a complicated business. This book can be read by a student, or interested lay person, if only to get an overview of how theendocrine system works and when it fails to function properly. The readercan find out what diabetes and high cholesterol means. I was somewhat bothered by the detail.

WARNING!!!!! THIS IS AN INTRODUCTORY BOOK TO THE ENDOCRINE SYSTEM AND IS NOT TO BE TAKEN AS A COMPLETE OVERVIEW OF IT!!!!!For the beginning student, this is a great book to use and may prove to be invaluable when you take that first step into the bigger world of the endocrine system. It helps to give you a good understanding out how it works and builds a good base for other knowledge to be built upon. Keep in mind, this is not designed to be a complete course or to teach you everything that is known about it. It's an outline explaining what it is, how it works, and some of the finer intricacies of it. If you buy it expecting it to be this amazing, tell all manual in a small, easily manageable package, then you're sorely mistake.I recommend this book for beginners that are just learning, or for people who want to brush up on some of the basics. I think this is a useful book to have, however if you want to look for yourself, Amazon.com has the option to view some of the pages. Give it a glance and make up your own mind about how well you know the system and if this manual can be useful or not. For some it'll work great, for others it will be terrible. Just do a little research before purchasing.
