Classic Willard -- A great synopsis of his teachings and central insights about Jesus, Christian Formation, Theology and Leadership.I cannot recommend it highly enough.~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~Now, just a few comments on the previous review that rightly pointed out that many of the articles in the book were previously available on Willard's website, but are no longer available with the publishing of the book: it is indeed sad, however, it might have been a necessary trade off when negotiating with the publisher. If the aims of a publisher is secular, to maximize sales of one's book, the publisher might require as a condition of publishing the book that such online articles be removed, even if the Willard family wanted to do otherwise.This does not negate the point made by the previous reviewer, but I think that more people will now be exposed to the writings of Dallas Willard through this collection of articles and interviews than if the project was cancelled because the publisher was concerned about reduced sales. This is speculation on my part as to why the articles were removed, but I at least see one great benefit: the fact that these articles are now available in electronic and audio form due to the creation of this book. Also, it is important to note that there are still over 50 articles about Dallas Willard's website about Christianity, so those that are unable to afford such a collection can feast on the insights of Dallas Willard there. Furthermore, the book is not merely a collection of articles taken from the website as it contains interviews which were previously not available in text form and also articles which were unpublished to date.Interestingly, I actually think that this book is a better value than the last collection, The Great Omission (even this collection has previously published articles from Christianity Today,etc.), considering how much more articles this book has. Lastly, it is important for potential customers to take into context the point of the other reviewer: "The person who has been reading Willard over the years will find very little that is new here, both in terms of content and in terms of previously unavailable material." In other words, if you are new to Dallas Willard's teaching then this book is a home run or if you only have read some of his works, it is still a home run; but if you own all his books, hunted down everything he has wrote, then your value proposition will be lower since you would have seen some of the material already. But then again, even though I own all of Willard books (and the matching audio books) and still have found tremendous value in having this collection; as I find great value in the new formats that the material is now in, (audio and eBook) and because even when I read articles from Willard that I have read before, I continue to learn something new. So in short, I think this collection is more than worth the price and you will find great value in it as well.

The book is a good, tight snapshot of many of Willard's beliefs, thoughts, and insights, while at the same time elaborating on themes that are crucial to him and to any seriously-minded person concerned and, perhaps struggling with the plight of the American church. The book addresses Christian spirituality and the role of Christian disciplines crucial to spirituality. There are essays in the book that have not yet been published and some that have been previously published, along with interviews with Willard. These interviews are truly useful and insightful. Some of the ideas and principles that Dallas Willard taught are often dismissed by many, and this "rehashing" of them helps anyone who is trying to come to terms with Willard's beliefs and views. I recommend this book to all. Willard was a great man. He is an example of a person who was, indeed, Christ-like. He was a man brimming with love and concern for his fellow man and this book, like all of Willard's, point to a land beyond and a life that is available now -- a supernatural life, an interactive life with Reality.

I usually give really good things four stars, so that when I come across something stupendous -- a pearl of great price -- I can give it five stars, to distinguish it from the "merely" excellent. ... With Dallas Willard, however, my opinion is that five stars is as low as he goes. I've never come across something by Willard less than a Five. This is a quandary for me, however, because the logical and definitional integrity of words and how we use them matter. It's clear to me that individuals and societies are damaged by epidemics of sloppy disregard in thinking and in verbal expression. I think, for example, that people who thoughtlessly say things like, "I always give 110 percent," are making slovenly use of their own minds. ... So, I'll have to settle for having to give all of Dallas's work the highest possible grade.

This is an excellent collection of Willard's writings from a wide variety of sources. For readers of Willard, there will of course be much that is familiar, but repetition here is good for the soul. And there is plenty of stuff that was not available before now in print. I'll be going back to highlighted and underlined portions.

I'm getting skeptical of these Willard books that keep coming out after his death, but this is a good one. The interviews are especially helpful.

I have not finished the book yet, but just like all the other Dallas Willard writings, this is excellent. It's a compilation of many of his other books plus much more. His books NEVER disappoint, however, they are deep and thoughtful.

A great book by a great author. Take your time. Must read slowly and with a meditating attitude.

Dallas Willard has been instrumental in the transformation of my mindset, thank God for reasonable thinking and Dallas's ability to drill down into the heart of salvation!
